Freight Class Calculator

Calculate LTL freight density and class using the NMFC 13-subprovision density scale in effect since July 19, 2025. Inches/lb or cm/kg.

How it works

Density = total weight (lb) ÷ total cubic feet, where ft³ = L × W × H (in) ÷ 1,728. Classes from the NMFC standard 13-subprovision density scale: <1 → 400; 1–<2 → 300; 2–<4 → 250; 4–<6 → 175; 6–<8 → 125; 8–<10 → 100; 10–<12 → 92.5; 12–<15 → 85; 15–<22.5 → 70; 22.5–<30 → 65; 30–<35 → 60; 35–<50 → 55; 50+ → 50. Some commodities have their own NMFC item and class, so confirm with your carrier.
