Gravel Calculator
Work out how much gravel you need for a driveway, path or base in cubic yards, cubic metres, tons and tonnes.
How it works
Cubic yards = length × width × depth (ft) ÷ 27. Weight = yd³ × density. 2,800 lb/yd³ (1.4 tons) is a common estimate for crushed gravel; density varies by stone, so ask your supplier.
Examples
- 10 ft × 10 ft at 3 in deep = 0.93 yd³ ≈ 1.3 tons at 2,800 lb/yd³.
FAQ
How deep should gravel be?
Paths are often 2–3 in; driveways typically 4–6 in of base plus a top layer. Local conditions vary.
Tons or tonnes?
A US ton is 2,000 lb; a metric tonne is 1,000 kg (2,204.6 lb). Canadian suppliers often sell by the tonne.
